Use MIDI Out & MIDI In

Tutorial video has sound to aid clarity (ensure video not muted). Get Wotja & try it!

How to configure Wotja to use MIDI Out & MIDI In

Tutorial assumption: The latest version of Wotja is installed on your device and you are using it.

The Tutorial shows you how to have Wotja itself generate sound (or not), how to configure MIDI Out and MIDI In Settings. It also provides a quick start on how to get going using MIDI In and a Listener Generator.

  1. Use Wotja Audio Engine to generate sound (or not):

Tap the Settings button and then select the Audio MIDI+ tab.

Make sure the WAE for Sounds & FX checkbox is ON if you want Wotja itself to generate sound, and turn it off if want only to use Wotja to send MIDI Out to 3rd party sound generators.

  2. Adjust Settings for MIDI Out and MIDI In:

Select the following from the Audio MIDI+ tab, above.

Tip: Try restarting Wotja if the items below do not show what you are expecting to see.

    1. MIDI Output:

There are several settings available and what is appropriate for you depends on your OS and DAW.

    2. MIDI Input:

There are several settings available and what is appropriate for you depends on your OS and DAW.

Logic macOS Tip: If you have a Software Instrument track and are using a Plug-in to render the MIDI notes e.g. built-in "Piano" but do not need to hear them in Logic, then instead of creating an altogther new "External MIDI Track" simply search the Instrument field for "External Instrument" and use that instead!

Note: You should only ever gave MIDI Transport Control and External Clock Sync on if you are using a DAW to remotely control the standalone version of Wotja.

  3. Check Wotja MIDI Out and MIDI In are working for you:

In the Documents screen select the Mixes tab, tap the Add Mix File button and then select the 'Empty' menu item.

    1. Check MIDI Out:

Add e.g. a "Pattern B" Generator Template and press play. If you have configured the MIDI Out Settings above correctly then MIDI should then be sent out from Wotja.

    2. Check MIDI Input:

Add e.g. a "Listener + Follower" Generator Template and then, as Listener Generators are a bit more complex to use, follow this Tutorial video from about 1m 55s onwards.
